Depression is treatable, but the most common depression treatments don’t work for everyone. If you live in or near Henderson, Nevada, you suffer from depression, and you’re ready to get your life back, you may be a candidate for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
Success TMS has an office conveniently located in Henderson, NV.
We’ve administered 2,150,000 treatments to more than 65,000 people, and our TMS experts are ready to help you get relief from your depression symptoms.
TMS therapy is a drug-free treatment for people with depression. It’s also non-invasive.
When you have a TMS therapy session, a Success TMS technician puts an electromagnetic coil gently on your head. Once the coil is in place, the TMS device is turned on, and the coil delivers painless magnetic pulses to your brain. These pulses stimulate the prefrontal cortex of your brain, which encourages the brain cells affected by depression to function more effectively.
The TMS patient reviews and our own experience with TMS therapy at Success TMSÂ prove how effective treatment is.
TMS therapy differs from other depression treatments in three important ways:
The main difference between TMS therapy and other types of depression treatment is that TMS is completely drug-free. No medications are involved at all. This is an advantage because while many people do respond well to medication, others find it doesn’t help their depression. Some patients can’t tolerate—or don’t want—the side effects of anti-depressants, or they have other health concerns that don’t allow them to take medication.
The fact that TMS therapy is non-invasive sets it apart from many other depression treatments. Procedures like deep brain stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation, and electroconvulsive therapy treat depression, but they are invasive or otherwise unpleasant treatments, and they require anesthesia. TMS is simple, effective, and completely non-invasive.
TMS side effects are rare. Fewer than 5% of people who have the treatment discontinue it because of them.
The most common side effect is temporary discomfort at or near the treatment site while treatment is happening. This usually goes away after the first week of treatment.
Most people who have TMS therapy feel their mood begin to improve after two to three weeks of treatment. Some feel changes even sooner.
Although the effects of TMS last a long time, some patients occasionally need booster treatments to stay free from depression. Everyone’s schedule of booster treatments is different, but they’re generally only a few consecutive sessions a year. Your maintenance schedule will depend on your own needs and situation. Your psychiatrist or nurse practitioner will schedule them for you, if necessary.
Most insurance providers cover booster treatments.
Most insurers provide either full coverage for TMS or coverage on a case-by-case basis. We can do the work of finding out for you with a complimentary insurance verification. Call us at 702-718-6844 to confirm your insurance pre-approval, if applicable.
