Get Relief from Depression Without Taking a Pill! TMS Therapy in Greenfield

Even though depression is a treatable mental illness, the standard treatments don’t work for everyone. If you’ve tried traditional depression treatments, such as medication and lifestyle changes, but haven’t felt any benefits, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy might be just what you need.

In partnership with American Behavioral Clinics, Hope Peace Recovery Treatment Centers in Greenfield, Wisconsin offers TMS therapy, a treatment with a proven track record of success in treating depression. More than 2,150,000 sessions of TMS have been provided to over 69,000 people, and this treatment could help you too.

American Behavioral Clinics (ABC) has established a reputation of providing caring and compassionate psychiatric and behavioral health services. We are committed to quality care with specialized services that provide a full continuum of psychiatric & behavioral health care.

What Is TMS?

TMS is a non-invasive and drug-free depression treatment. In a TMS therapy session, a technician places an electromagnetic coil gently on your head. They switch the TMS device on, and the coil sends magnetic pulses to the prefrontal cortex of your brain.

TMS therapy works by using this electromagnetic energy to stimulate your prefrontal cortex. This part of the brain regulates mood. In someone with depression, it’s less active than normal. TMS stimulates the prefrontal cortex and improves how it regulates mood.

Our patient testimonials prove that TMS therapy is a very effective treatment for depression!

How Is TMS Different from Other Depression Treatments?

TMS is different from other treatments in three significant ways:

1. It’s Drug-Free.

TMS therapy is an effective depression treatment for people who:

  • Don’t benefit fully from medication
  • Can’t tolerate the side effects of anti-depressant medication
  • Prefer not to take anti-depressant drugs

Anti-depressants help many people, but they don’t work for everyone. If you don’t benefit from medication or can’t tolerate the side effects, TMS could be a viable option.

2. It’s Non-Invasive.

There are other depression treatments like deep brain stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation, and electroconvulsive therapy. But these involve invasive surgery or unpleasant procedures, and require anesthesia. TMS therapy is effective, non-invasive, and doesn’t require anesthesia.

3. It’s Virtually Side-Effect Free.

Fewer than 5% of patients stop having TMS therapy because of side effects. The most common side effect is discomfort at or near the treatment site while the treatment is happening. This discomfort usually subsides after around a week of treatment.

How Long Does It Take TMS Therapy to Work?

Most TMS patients notice improvements in their mood within two or three weeks of starting treatment. Some notice positive results even earlier than this!

TMS therapy provides long-term benefits, but you may need booster treatments once in a while to stay free from your symptoms. If you need them, it’s likely that only a few consecutive sessions a year will be necessary. In most cases, insurance covers booster treatments.

Does Insurance Cover TMS Therapy?

TMS has documented success treating medication-resistant depression, so most insurers cover the procedure. What Else Should You Know about TMS Therapy in Greenfield?

What to Expect During Your First Appointment

Your first appointment at Sucess TMS Treatment Centers is an assessment with two parts. First, you’ll spend 15 minutes completing paperwork, and then you’ll meet with our psychiatrist for up to 45 minutes.

At the meeting the psychiatrist will review your medical and mental health history and answer any questions you have about the treatment. Be sure to ask questions and mention any concerns you have. We want to help you make a confident decision about your treatment!

How Long Is the Treatment Schedule?

When you become our patient, we’ll give you a written schedule of all your appointments, so you can make any accommodations you need to.

The full course of treatment is typically up to six weeks, with up to five sessions a week, then three weeks of treatments at a less frequent rate.

Who Is Eligible for TMS?

Most people who have depression are eligible for TMS therapy. The main issue that might disqualify someone is the presence of non-removable metal in the head or face. This can be a problem because the metal may react unfavorably with magnetic energy. Non-removable mental can include:

  • Medical devices, such as a vagus or deep brain stimulators, or cochlear implants
  • Shrapnel or bullets
  • A tattoo on the face or head that uses metallic or magnetic ink
Some dental work (Most is acceptable.)
