Get Relief from Depression Without Taking a Pill! TMS Therapy in Chicago

Depression is a serious illness that affects every aspect of life.

Sometimes treatments such as medication and lifestyle changes help, but they don’t work for everyone. If you haven’t seen any improvement to your depression symptoms, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) may be the solution.

Success TMS Treatment Centers in Chicago, Illinois offers TMS therapy to people with depression. With more than 2,150,000 sessions given to over 65,000 patients, TMS therapy has a proven track record of treating depression.

What Is TMS?

TMS is a non-invasive depression treatment that is drug-free. It works by stimulating the prefrontal cortex of the brain, which is the region where mood is regulated.

When you have a TMS session, a technician places an electromagnetic coil gently on your head. They turn the device on to deliver magnetic pulses to your prefrontal cortex. This helps your brain cells work more effectively and improves your mood and alleviates your depression symptoms.

How Is TMS Different from Other Depression Treatments?

TMS therapy is different from other treatments in three important ways:

1. TMS Is Drug-Free

Medication is one of the most common depression treatments, but it doesn’t work well for everyone.

  • Some people don’t benefit from medication.
  • Some people have unpleasant side effects on medication.
  • Some prefer not to take medication for depression.

If you haven’t benefited from anti-depressant medication, or would rather not take medication for depression, TMS therapy may be a good alternative.

2. TMS Is Non-Invasive

There are other depression treatments, such as electroconvulsive therapy, deep brain stimulation, and vagus nerve stimulation, but these involve invasive surgery or unpleasant procedures, and require anesthesia.

TMS therapy is different because it’s effective, non-invasive, and doesn’t require anesthesia.

3. TMS Treatment Is Nearly Side-Effect Free

Less than 5% of TMS patients stop their treatment due to side effects. The most common side effect of TMS therapy is temporary discomfort at or near the treatment site during a session. For most people, this stops after the first week of treatment.

How Long Does It Take TMS Therapy to Work?

People who have TMS therapy usually start to see positive changes within two or three weeks of their first treatment. Sometimes, positive changes happen even sooner!

TMS therapy is a long-term therapy but some people occasionally need booster treatments to maintain their results. When booster treatment is needed, it’s usually just a few consecutive treatments a year. Often, booster treatments are covered by insurance.

Does Insurance Cover TMS Therapy?

TMS therapy is proven to be successful in treating depression, which means most insurers cover it. If you’re not sure whether your insurance covers TMS, Success TMS can give you a free insurance verification.
